Das weiße Rössl am Central Park
Music Theatre
Auf Deutsch - in German

How do you build a new cultural identity after flight and exile? The Singspiel Im Weissen Rössl (1930) is the blue print for "Heimat" in German revue theatre - and was banned by the Nazis. In numerous productions by Europeans in exile, however, it continued to exist in New York. Now the music of the revue's original merges with found footage of forgotten Rössl versions: A mixture of music theatre and lecture performance about lost entertainment history, Jewish-German escape experience and the dazzling reinvention of home.

Johannes Müller / Philine Rinnert develop music theatre hybrids that focus on the past of opera, its effects and techniques, but which are also an archaeology of the present, of entertainment and queer culture. For their work Reading Salomé they received the jury prize at the Favoriten Festival 2016. In 2019 they were invited to Impulse Theater Festival with White Limozeen. www.johannesmueller.eu | www.philinerinnert.de
