Speak Boldly - The Julius Eastman Dance Project
As a highly talented musician, composer, singer and dancer Julius Eastmann, who passed away in 1990, was a multi-talent in music history. Despite international success, as an openly gay Afro-American he was still however unable to assert himself in the white dominated art scene. Christoph Winkler translates three pieces by Eastman with international guests into a choreography focusing on the pioneering influences of minimal music in contemporary dance: what inspiration would dance have drawn from Eastman’s works if it had become part of the educational canon?
