HUMANS, ANIMALS, RELATIONS

Workshop, Lectures, Performances

Animals don't talk, at least not as we do, but there are forms of communication beyond human speech, which seem all the more differentiated – especially in bodily movement. This holds for the relations between humans and animals but also for the ones among animals, within species and in between them. These physical communicative acts and events can be described as 'dances’, since their meaning emerges from the movement: Think of dressage or dog dancing, mating birds or bees describing the route to pollen. Or think of folk dances, where humans dance animals for other humans, such as the tarantella. What can we learn from the material-semiotic dances between humans and animals?
